1. Ubuntu installation on hp dv2000. The problem is that I am getting horizontal lines on the screen. And the power button which should be in the far right is on the far left of the screen. Display fails when I access dash home. I think there's a problem with the nvidia drivers. Also the wireless is not working.
2. Tried cloudready on Hp DV2000 through USB everything seems to work fine. Have yet to install fully, Picked up all the WIFI connections with no problems. Specs: Hp Pavillion DV2000 AMD Turion 64X2, Nvidia Graphics, 1gb ram, Broadcom b431 Wifi Chip, SanDisk 32gb SSD Hard drive.

So, I'm a little stumped and was hoping for some advice. I just refitted an HP dv2000 laptop with Mint 10. Out of the box (once updated etc), everything worked amazingly well, good network connectivity and throughput on multiple networks, angels singing, everything. 10 days after I passed the machine on to the kids, I get a report about loss of network connectivity 'The light on the front turned orange'.

I looked, and the light was indeed orange, indicating network card issues. I checked history etc and besides youtube videos of very cute babies mixed with techno music, there wasn't anything to be scared of. At first, i thought the wireless-disable switch was turned the wrong way, but that was fine.

So, I thought maybe the system couldn't address the hardware, but I could/did. The network adapter shows in lspci as it should. Then, I figured I ought to go update and enable the drivers, which worked, but didn't help. The fellow with the suspenders that's been Linux support since 1763 told me to update the drivers and then started grumbling about recompiling with a custom kernel the he is going to write someday and also something about Star Trek. I left, quickly. I tried connecting manually, no dice.

Also prayer failed. And animal sacrifice gets blood on the keyboard, so nothing there either. After that, I got mad enough to spit, so I did a fresh install of Mint 10, updates, the whole package. I went on the ubuntu forums, which suggested that I might use ndiswrapper, but that also did not help, using multiple driver versions. And the mint forums said to do what I did and mentioned that it ought to work out of the box. Which it did. Until it didn't.

So, now I have an very amber light on my laptop and a very red frustration on my face. Can ANYONE help? I ran ndiswrapper, it said it installed the driver (bcmwl5.inf was the file) but i looked under the ifconfig and nothing shows up that has to do with a WLAN. Only an ethernet and a Link encap: Local Loopback ( a connection attempt by me i think). My commands went as follows: -ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf ( while root and in the folder i unpacked the driver install file in) -ndiswrapper -l to see if installed ( it reported bcmwl5 driver installed, hardware present(alternative driver ####) -modprobe ndiswrapper -lsmod -ndiswrapper -m (this reported modprobe config already contains alias directive) -depmod -a -ifconfig. This guy has a really complete set of instructions.

I'm running OpenSuSE 10.2 and it works pretty well. The only thing I differed on is after wrapping you driver you have to restart network devices.

I believe you can reactivate the settings/new driver with modprobe ndiswrapper. not sure though. Looks like you ran that type of command, but just to be thorough.

Also I used Network Manager vs. Traditional setup with ifup (which he recommends).
